At least 39 people were detained in simultaneous police operations in 8 different Turkish provinces over use of a smart phone application known as ByLock, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported on December 7, 2017.

According to the report, the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued detention warrants for the thirty-nine alleged users of the mobile app, which is, according to the Turkish government, a communication tool between members of the Gülen movement.

The news agency stated that among the detainees were medical doctors, teachers and many others from different walks of life.
