A dormitory manager in Turkey’s Black Sea province of Samsun, identified by his initials F.T., was sentenced to 9 years and 9 months in prison, state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Oct 24.
F.T., the last manager of a Samsun dormitory, established by the followers of the Gulen movement and shut down by the government in the aftermath of the July 15, 2016 coup attempt, appeared before the court in charge for his final hearing.
Accused of having used ByLock mobile application, F.T. was sentenced to 9 years plus 9 months on charges of membership to a terrorist organization.
ByLock is an encrypted smartphone chatting app that the government believes to be the top communication tool within the Gulen movement.
The government blames the movement for the last year’s failed coup while the latter denies involvement.
