Huge banners on the walls of two restaurants in Istanbul read the same discriminatory sentence: “Parallels and sympathizers of parallels not allowed inside the restaurant,” a clear reference to Gulen Movement which the government accuses of masterminding the July 15 coup.
Nevada Steakhouse and Sarıhan İşkembe, the two restaurants located in Başakşehir quarter, hung separate banners that read the above mentioned discriminatory sentence, three days after the night of coup attempt.
In a separate incidence, a phone store in Sinop’s Türkeli district also wrote on its window: “Pro-FETO, parallel coup lowers are not allowed in this shop.
FETO is an abbreviation President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan coined to describe the sympathizers of Gulen Movement. Parallel is an another reference to sympathizers of the movement which hints at alleged network of people within state institutions.
The Gulen Movement has repeatedly denied involvement, condemning any intervention into democratically-elected administrations.
