Mehmet Kosar, a father of two and a 38-year-old computer teacher in Mugla’s Fethiye who was dismissed from his job over links to the Gulen movement, has killed himself days after he was released from prison pending trial over connections to Gulenists.
Local media said that Kosar hanged himself to an iron bar attached to the ceiling of his bedroom. Kosar killed himself due to physiological problems, according to the same source.
Kosar has added to the growing number of people who have committed suicide in the face of a post-coup government crackdown.
After being dismissed from his job, Kosar tried to flee to Georgia, to no avail, Yeni Hamle online news portal said.
Customs police stopped him at the Georgian border, detained and sent back to Mugla where he was arrested pending trial over Gulen links.
About 30 days after his arrest, Kosar tried to kill self in prison, the first such attempt that got him transferred to Mugla State Hospital for a 20-day theraphy.
The court overseeing his case released Kosar on judicial control, however the release did not mean relief for his family.
His wife Ganime, also a dismissed teacher, was detained this time around. Yeni Hamle said Ganime was held in police custody for 10 days.
On March 9, Kosar’s life ended his life in his second suicide attempt.
Turkish government accuses the Gulen movement of masterminding the July 15, 2016 failed coup while the group denies involvement.
More than 150,000 people have lost their jobs as a result of the government’s post-coup crackdown since the July 15, 2016 coup attempt in Turkey.
